That’s a perfectly valid opinion. I enjoyed how it played with the country elements but had enough other stuff going on that it was more than the sum of its parts, but I can see why it could fall flat.

Holy shit I just looked this up and this article says there are forty buttons! Also apparently if you didn’t eject in time, the game would erase your save file?!?
LOL I had completely forgotten about this controller. One of my roommates in college had one of these and I usually wound up with it. I didn’t hate it, though, for a third party controller it was surprisingly decent. The fan was mid, but you could feel it, from what I remember.
I haven’t actually listened to ATITFOL as much as I have Laugh Tracks and the Upon Loss singles, but I think the new album stacks up for sure.
I dunno how many folks on Beehaw are into Knocked Loose, but this album is blowing me away. Every track is incredible. I was worried that the singles would be all of the good songs and the rest of the album would disappoint, but that isn’t the case at all.
Knocked Loose has been killing it with the singles, I am super hyped for the album to drop next month.
Also, I’ve liked some of Poppy’s stuff in the past, but she went SO HARD on this track.
I sympathize with you. I didn’t grow up catholic, but rather evangelical, but I can understand the realization that the people who taught you to love others have an ideology that is profoundly hateful. I remember the bewilderment and confusion that goes along with that realization. I didn’t leave the faith altogether, although at times it felt like I would, but I’m in a dramatically different place than I was a decade ago for sure.
All that to say that I understand at least a little of what you’re going through, and I’m sorry you’re grappling with this. It helped me to realize that there are believers out there that think differently, and that the transphobes, homophobes, racists, and reactionaries don’t own the faith.
Some of the decks and jokers you unlock change the game pretty dramatically.
I’m in the same boat, I’ve made it all the way to Orange and just can’t seem to put together a winning run. Which deck have you been trying it with?
Let’s not use disabilities as insults, please.
Yeah, honestly giving it a second listen, I probably would have had a better initial reaction to the song if I hadn’t been expecting something different because of the name. Also the video is pretty damn off-putting, lol. The song is pretty solid, even if it’s not what I’m usually looking for in the stoner/sludge genre.
This is a decent song, although I’m not a huge fan of the mix or the vocal style - I know it’s part of the vibe it’s just not my favorite. But I’ve got to say, if I was this band I would not have named myself after an album by a band that is IMO way better, lol. All this made me do is some confused googling and then I went and listened to Electric Wizard for a while.
Alien Weaponry! They’re a Maori metal band and a lot of their songs are written/sung in Maori.
Hatupatu and Kai Tangata are two of their songs that I really enjoyed.
I think one of the community mods from another community on beehaw is Kiwi so they might be familiar with some others as well.
Since you mentioned bluegrass, I’m particular to Trampled by Turtles but you also can’t go wrong with Union Station.
Yeah, it’s named after this guy from celtic folklore.
This video really made me realize how disconnected I’ve gotten from the top 40. I’m not one of those that is gonna go on a diatribe about pop not being real music, people are allowed to like whatever they like and music doesn’t have to be complicated or deep to be good. But I hadn’t realized how little I was listening to the radio these days. A decade ago I would have still probably been listening to radio stations in the car most days and so I would have some exposure to the top 40 as I was switching between stations, but I didn’t recognize a single song on this list, with the exception of the two really controversial ones - which I only recognized because I saw some of the backlash against them. I also noticed that Todd pointed out several times how much less it takes these days to get a song on the top 40. I wonder if that is because of how fractured the general listening public has gotten as radio has less sway when it comes to making hits. If anybody has any articles/videos on that I’d love to see them.
I don’t know how “pure” you want your chiptunes to be, but for my money Master Boot Record is some of the best stuff out there. I would definitely say it’s at the very least gaming inspired if not pure chiptunes, and it kicks all kinds of ass. They’ve done a lot of covers of classic game music - Bloody Tears is a great one, as well as their cover of the Doom theme. But I really love their original stuff too. Internet Protocol is a 10/10 album to me.
Slightly less chiptunes but still absolutely gaming inspired is their side project Keygen Church. Tenebre Rosso Sangue from the Ultrakill soundtrack is probably their best known track. It’s sort of a chiptunes adjacent castlevania-metal vibe? It’s hard to describe but it absolutely destroys.
Yeah IMO the more famous and respected Kojima has gotten, the worse his writing has been. And I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, he badly needs editors. I think it’s kind of like George Lucas in that they have a lot of ideas, some of which are really good and some of which are absolutely batshit. Sometimes those types of writers need someone who can ground them and tell them that they don’t have to put all of their ideas in.
@Scary_le_Poo and @jarfil: if the two of you have a disagreement on another thread, please work it out between the two of you like adults there; don’t spill it over into other, unrelated threads.
@Scary_le_Poo, these types of personal attacks are not acceptable on beehaw. It is possible to disagree while still being kind and without resorting to angry or abusive language. Please try to remember beehaw’s guiding principal when interacting with others in the future.
I saw this headline and expected something very different than what I got, and I’m really glad. I think the last decade has made me really cynical about technology and the internet, for some good reasons, to the point where a story like this is almost surprising. I found myself a little caught off guard by how emotional I got while reading it. Thank you for posting this.
